What does MTA mean to employers?

MTA logo

The Mountain Training Association is committed to furthering professionalism and promoting good practice amongst its members. Our members are passionate about the activities they provide or aspire to deliver once qualified, and are committed to continued personal development (CPD) demonstrating their commitment to keeping their skills fresh and up-to-date and delivering professionally led activities in the outdoors. As a result, membership is often something that outdoor employers look for when hiring new staff.

RAW Adventures course

"As an employer of a lot of Mountain Leaders, for various mountain based events, Climb Snowdon walks, skills courses and activity days, we do place a lot of importance in them being members of a professional or membership association and for most of our freelance Mountain Leaders, this is the Mountain Training Association. Being a member of the Mountain Training Association proves that the individual is also interested in promoting and sharing good practice within the industry sector and willing to fund a modest membership fee to gain access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, networking events, support and advice, as a Mountain Leader (or however else they like to define themselves).

RAW is also committed to making this fact known to any clients it deals with, to help them appreciate that the outdoors industry does have access to membership organisations and bodies committed to furthering professionalism and good practice for all involved, like many other industry sectors. We thus do ask freelance staff if they are current members of the MTA, and promote membership as being a positive process within our Standard Operating Procedures."
