Getting together with Mountain Rescue

Joint Associations' Furness and Duddon Mountain Rescue Team Workshop – 5th March 2015 Mountain Rescue Rob Pugh 1

The aim of the workshop was to learn more about the role of the Team, the type of call outs they attend and how we can best assist them as professional mountaineers. There were 3 sessions:
  • The control room and ‘behind the scenes’ management of a call out.
  • The theory of cliff rescue, searches and the role of Search and Rescue Dogs.
  • The practical use of cliff rescue and other associated equipment.
The workshops were really well presented and gave us all a much better understanding of how MRT’s operate and how we can assist them if involved in an incident, either when calling them out or if we come across an incident in the mountains.

It was interesting to note that prior to the workshop many of us felt that we had relatively little understanding of how MRT’s work. This was certainly rectified by the end of the evening and many questions were comprehensively answered.

This workshop was attended by 26 Members with representatives from all of the Associations – AMI, MTA, BMG and BAIML and it’s really great to see so many joint Associations’ members on the same workshop.

There was no charge for the evening – the Team asked for donations only which totalled £133! Thanks to everyone for their generosity and a HUGE thank you to Mike, Paul, Andy and John from the Team who gave us such a useful, interesting and informative CPD workshop which concluded with a pleasant social in Prince of Wales pub.
