The Real3Peaks Challenge - Cleanse and Conserve

This year's date for the ‘Real3Peaks Challenge: Cleanse & Conserve' is Saturday 4th October

Real3Peaks Challenge

In 2013, Mountain Training Association member Rich Pyne was working on Ben Nevis and was shocked by the amounts of rubbish he found - posting about this on social media he soon heard back from other outdoor professionals - the UK's three highest peaks were becoming a dumping ground for near industrial quantities of rubbish. Determined to do something about it he recruited other members of the Mountain Training Association and the Real 3 Peaks Challenge was launched. Led by Rich Pyne on Ben Nevis, Kate & Ross Worthington on Snowdon and Kelvyn James on Scafell Pike together with several teams of volunteers, they brought over a quarter of a tonne of rubbish off the 3 Peaks in one day. The event attracted local and national media attention - and helped kick start the debate currently ongoing about how we encourage participation but protect our wild places.

The three Association co-ordinators are looking for additional member volunteers who are prepared to come out for the day and see if we can beat lasts years phenominal amount of rubbish removed - that's right - your chance to be a latter day womble. It really is an opportunity to give something back and show your commitment to promote sustainable use of the mountains. Its also a great opportunity to network and promote yourself.
