As we start the year in another national lockdown, we understand this is a difficult time for all and therefore we are busy putting together a programme of online webinars to help enable you to continue learning and engaging with the MTA community during these challenging times. Here's a few to get you started......
Winter focused webinars
We are very sorry to have had to announce the MTA winter CPD weekend is cancelled due to the current situation. Glenmore Lodge have very kindly offered to host a series of winter focused webinars to support members who are keen to get stuck into some winter learning and brush up on some winter knowledge. All sessions are offered twice at different times of the day to help accommodate members as best as possible (you do not need to attend both).
Winter navigation
An introduction to the skills and tactics of winter navigation. There will be opportunities to ask questions throughout and at the end.

Common reasons for a navigation deferrals
The most common reasons given for a navigation deferment at all qualification levels where it is assessed are: Contour interpretation, a lack of appropriate leg planning & navigation strategies and an inability to carry out a relocation process. Join Nigel Williams as he discusses these topics and thoughts on improving these skill areas.

Developing Teaching and Learning Skills
Take this oppportunity to enhane your teaching and learning skills with this four part series of webinars run by our very own Coaching Scheme Provider and Coach Educator Paul Smith along with Dan Wilkinson who has an MSc in Performance Coaching and is a level 5 coach for British Canoeing, as well as authors of their newly published book Coaching Adventure Sport.
The webinars start from Thursday the 14th January and will cover a variety of topics based on the series of articles published in The Professional Mountaineer. Part 4 of the article series is coming in the March 2021 edition.
Route Planning and Electronic Navigation
If you want to learn more and brush up on the important skill of route planning as a walking leader or get an overview of electric navigation gadgets and how they fit into the Mountain Training Qualifications then join Paul Poole, a Mountain Training Course Provider for the Mountain Leader training and assessment courses, for an evening webinar session on these topics.
You can even send us your quesitons in advance of the event so we can include them in the session.
Remote Supervision
Are you involved with or would like to learn about supervising groups remotely? Then why not join Gavin Kelly for this introduction to remote supervision webinar. The session will look at some of the principles and factors to be consdiered when supervising groups remotely. You can also send us your questons in advance of the event so that we can include them in the session. Gavin Kelly is an experienced Mountain Training course director and runs practical remote supervision workshops for MTA.
