Mountain Training Association collaborate with the Met Office
Mountain Training Association are excited to annouce they have a collaboration agreement with the Met Office to deliver specialist mountain weather workshops to members around the UK, throughout 2019.
These workshops have been carefully designed to support the syllabi of Mountain Training's qualifications as well as to enhance the knowledge of qualified leaders and instructors. They are all about practically applying information gained from weather forecasts during the planning stage and dynamically whilst out in the hills and mountains.
By working with Mountain Training Association the Met Office believes it will engage with the mountain user community, passing on information to help the public understand how to use the forecast information provided. Enabling them to make informed decision, whilst enjoying their time in the great outdoors.
The workshops are being delivered by a team of experts from the Met Office and include Dr. Mike Reading, Senior Operational Meteorologist from the Met Office in Aberdeen, Mike Mason RMet, Industry and Aviation Training Manager from the Met Office College, Colin McAllister who is a learning consultant at the Met Office and Donald Ferguson.
We successfully ran three of these workshops last year as we were developing the agreement; the workshops were sold out in record time and took place at Glenmore Lodge, The Foundary (Sheffield) and Wellington College (Berkshire). So if you are interested in this great training opportunity, book a place early. Dates and venues for this year's workshops are listed below:
If you want to learn more about the weather, or you want to test your knowledge, did you know we have a
Mountain Weather e-learning module also created in collaboration with the
Met Office, which once you have successfully completed will count as 0.5 CPD points.

"Just a quick note to say, what a fantastic training day yesterday with the Met Office!! Learnt so much! Extremely knowledgeable speakers. Well done to everyone that helped organise it. We should book these two speakers on a regular basis. Fantastic!" - Matt Burgin, 2018
