MTA Volunteer Awards 2023
The annual Mountain Training Association volunteer awards are now open for nominations.
Our volunteer awards are part of our ongoing appreciation for all that volunteers do for Mountain Training's Association and in the wider world. These awards highlight the incredible work that volunteers do and profile the positive impact they make on society and the world around them.
Categories and criteria are all listed below and cover areas such as the environment, access, youth engagement, diversity and wellbeing.

Volunteer of the Year – Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity
Someone who set-up an initiative on inclusion that had a significant impact or was heavily involved in the organisation or running of such a project with a focus on one or more of the following groups: women and/or girls; supporting people from minority groups (such as but not limited to LGBTQ+ people, people who are gender non-conforming, people of faith or belief); or people from a different ethnic background to white British or white Irish; or people from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
and/or
Someone who volunteered a significant amount of time with an organization that supports one of the groups highlighted above and made a significant impact.
and/or
Someone who has made a significant contribution to raising awareness of the issues faced by the people outlined above and inspiring others to seek solutions and ways forward.
Volunteer of the Year – Environmental
Someone who set-up a sustainability/environmental support/awareness raising initiative that had a significant impact or was heavily involved in the organisation or running of such an initiative.
and/or
Someone who volunteered a significant amount of time with an environmental organisation and made a significant impact.
and/or
Someone who has made a significant contribution to raising environmental awareness and understanding of the natural environment, climate change and/or sustainability inspiring others to support environmental initiatives, campaigns and to seek solutions.
Volunteer of the Year – Wellbeing (mental and/or physical)
Someone who set-up an initiative that had a significant impact to support Mental Health and/or Well-being or was heavily involved in the organisation or running of such an initiative.
and/or
Someone who volunteered a significant amount of time with an organisation that supports mental and/or physical well-being and made a significant impact.
and/or
Someone who had made a significant contribution to raising awareness of the issues faced by those with mental health issues and an understanding of well-being, inspiring others to seek solutions and ways forward.
Volunteer of the Year – Accessibility
Someone who set-up an initiative that had a significant impact to support people with disabilities and/or those with accessibility needs or was heavily involved in the organisation or running of such an initiative.
and/or
Someone who volunteered a significant amount of time with an organisation with a focus on accessibility and/or that supports people with disabilities and made a significant impact.
and/or
Someone who had made a significant contribution to raising awareness of the issues faced by disabled people or people with disabilities, whether invisible or visible, inspiring others to seek solutions and ways forward.
