Mountain Training Operations Officer

Mountain Training United Kingdom and Ireland (MTUKI) is seeking a dynamic individual with vision and management skills to provide project leadership and office management support. MTUKI administers several schemes directly and indirectly in walking and climbing activities, which are delivered by a network of providers across the UK and Ireland and via the national Mountain Training organisations.

The individual will be a senior employee of MTUKI, with responsibilities including staff management, the efficient running and development of a range of Mountain Training projects and will work closely with the MTUKI CEO and the Mountain Training England (MTE) Executive Officer.

This full-time job will be based at the MTUKI office at Siabod Cottage, Capel Curig (although the post involves some travel and the post holder is likely to be away from the office at times). The Operations Officer will have management support from the MTE Executive Officer and also report to the MTUKI Chief Executive Officer.

Salary: circa £45,000 (depending on skills and experience)
Term: Full time, 18 month contract (including 3 month probationary period)
Allowances: Travel expenses
Holiday entitlement: 30 days, plus bank holidays
Post location: Siabod Cottage, Capel Curig
Reporting to: MTUKI CEO & MTE EO
Responsible for: Supporting the management and development of MTUKI work streams, including line management of key staff and occasional representation with external bodies.

Key tasks

  • Manage day to day projects within MTUKI and its associated company Mountain Training Publications as agreed with the MTUKI CEO
  • Take day to day responsibility for the management of some MTUKI staff and contractors
  • Contribute to and support the maintenance and development of Mountain Training administered schemes and any future schemes developed
  • To act as an ambassador at times for MTUKI and MTE at a range of relevant stakeholder meetings
  • Work closely with the MTE Executive Officer to identify and take responsibility for the management and development of specific projects
  • Address relevant conferences and organisations to promote Mountain Training
  • Contribute to the Mountain Training Association Management Group
Other duties: To undertake other duties associated with the post and that the Boards of MTUKI and MTE may reasonably call upon the post holder to perform.

Working conditions: This is a full time post, based at Siabod Cottage with some remote working possible.

Person specification

Essential

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the activities promoted by Mountain Training
  • Experience of managing staff, project work, operational and developmental planning
  • Current driving licence
  • Ability to work effectively alone and as part of a team, with a diverse range of individuals and groups
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Willing to travel and to work unsocial hours including occasional weekends
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Desirable

  • Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor qualification, and/or other Mountain Training qualifications
  • An active member of the Mountain Training Association and/or the Association of Mountaineering Instructors, British Association of International Mountain Leaders or British Association of Mountain Guides
  • Experience of organising meetings and public participation events
  • Course director experience for Mountain Training
  • Experience of promotion and marketing
  • Committee experience
  • Experience of public speaking
  • Experience of production of training/educational materials
  • Experience and/or qualifications in teaching and coaching
