The Professional Mountaineer

The Professional Mountaineer is a quarterly magazine for members of four associations: AMI (Association of Mountaineering Instructors), BAIML (British Association of International Mountain Leaders), BMG (British Association of Mountain Guides) and MTA (Mountain Training Association). Articles are written by association members and cover a wide range of topics relevant to people in a leader, coach, instructor or guide role, as well as book and gear reviews. The magazine is highly regarded as the readership value the opportunity to learn from and be inspired by their peers.

Every quarter, association members receive a printed copy of the magazine through the post and back issues are available to members as a digital pdf in the online association members' areas.

Many association members have been seriously affected by the events of the last 2 years and the associations are keen to support their members in any way they can. We hope that by sharing the 2020 and 2021 editions of our magazine outside the associations it will help to inspire others to try climbing, walking and/or mountaineering, and consider hiring or working with one of our professionals to make the experience all the better. Look out for the association badges (see below) when looking for your expert.

The articles in The Professional Mountaineer give just a taste of the expertise, knowledge, skill level and experience of association members, and we are sure they will encourage a wider range of people to venture forth and gain confidence in walking, climbing and/or mountaineering.

If you’re interested in hiring a leader, coach, instructor or guide, then you can find a leader here.

If you wish to register for a Mountain Training qualification, you can find more details of the different qualifications here.
