Hill & Mountain Skills Scheme Provider Inductions

Round 1 - Plas y Brenin

Train the Trainer HillMtn Skills Last week Mountain Training staff worked alongside over 120 enthusiastic tutors for the new Hill & Mountain Skills Scheme. Some slightly suspect weather didn’t stop our new intake as they dissected the syllabus and completed a ‘Train the Trainer’ style day aimed at structuring a logical programme and then delivering the ‘nuts and bolts’ skills. All were delighted to be hosted at Plas y Brenin (the National Mountain Sports Centre in Snowdonia).

It was a great opportunity for tutors to meet and network with others as they were split into small working groups to discuss the larger and smaller aspects of this exciting new scheme.

For Mountain Training it was chance to catch up with award holders who are now in a position to deliver this new training programme on our behalf – always an exciting development and something we’ll be doing a lot more of in 2014!

It was really positive to have so many outdoor professionals together, sharing ideas and thoughts on how to deliver an engaging course. The Hill & Mountain Skills Scheme is generating a lot of momentum at the moment which will be further strengthened by the next set of inductions at Thornbridge Hall in February, which is already full, such is the demand. Then there’s Claverham in Somerset in March (nearly full) and the Castleshaw Centre just outside Oldham in April (open for bookings any minute now).

So as you can see it’s shaping up to be quite a busy period for Mountain Training. And that doesn’t even include the Lowland Leader award which is being launched at the beginning of April!
