The summit of Tryfan cKarl Midlane

Remember all those good intentions you had at the start of the year? The ones about getting out more, working towards a qualification or gaining some more skills so you could have bigger adventures? Well it’s not too late to take action and start making them a reality.

Registering on one of our schemes takes less than 10 minutes (less than 5 if you’ve already got an account on our system) and it’s the first step towards achieving something great. So do it now!

Think about all the lovely walks you could go on this summer, or the new climbing focus you’d have if you were brave enough to make it happen: register on one of our schemes and find a training course that works for you.

If you’re not sure which scheme is right for you, we’ve written a short article that asks you some questions and should help you make a decision. If you’re still unsure, contact us and we’ll do our best to help.

Why do I have to register?

All of our schemes – qualifications and skills courses – involve a registration process. For many* of our schemes, this is very straightforward and involves paying a fee to give you access to the courses in the scheme. Your registration lasts a lifetime and the fee enables us to administer the courses, support you through our customer service team and develop the candidate management system. Registration also gives you access to DLOG (our digital logbook) where you can record your walking/climbing/mountaineering experience.

*For some of our qualifications your registration needs to be approved by one of our technical officers before you can attend any courses – this only applies to ‘higher’ qualifications such as Winter Mountain Leader, International Mountain Leader and Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor.

How do I register?

If you’re completely new to Mountain Training, welcome! Here’s how to get started:
  • Create an account on our candidate management system (CMS) – this involves verifying your email address so make sure you can access your emails before you start
  • Fill in your personal details
  • Go to the registration page
  • Select the right scheme
  • Add Mountain Training Association membership (optional - see below)
  • Pay the fee
Then you can start recording your experience in DLOG and book on a course.

What’s Mountain Training Association membership all about?

The association (sometimes called MTA) is designed to give you the support you need to succeed as you journey through our schemes. Anyone who is registering on any of our qualifications can join the association and it provides additional training opportunities through a comprehensive workshop programme, access to deals and discounts to save you money and a quarterly magazine written by outdoor professionals (among many other benefits). Find out what current members think and why they joined.

Please note: if you are registering for the Hill & Mountain Skills scheme you can't join the association.
