ROCK SKILLS INTERMEDIATE

'The main aims of this course are learning how to be a safe belayer, how to second routes competently and belay a lead climber. You will develop your climbing movement skills and you will learn how to place protection and construct belays.'

Course Providers

All courses must be delivered by an approved course provider. For course provider responsibilities please see the Skills Scheme Quality Manual area.

Participant Registration

  • Be at least 12 years old.
  • Completion of the Rock Skills Introduction OR
  • Have logged 10 routes on walls or outdoor crags and have logged 10 belays of a fellow climber.

Minimum Course Duration

  • 16 hours.
  • Delivered in a 2 day programme (inc. 5 hours min on an accessible crag).

Course Size

  • 1 participant minimum.
  • 8 participants maximum

Staffing Ratio

  • 1 staff: 4 participants

Course Tutor Experience

The courses are delivered by approved course tutors, who are all experienced Mountain Training award holders and work on behalf of the course provider. Please see Course Tutor Requirements in the Skills Scheme Quality Manual for further guidance.

Additional Course Staff

Rock Climbing Instructor or higher. Please see course staff requirements in the Skills Scheme Quality Manual for further guidance.
