BMC Coaching Symposium
BMC Ambassador Shauna Coxsey will be joining a team of coaches presenting at this year's BMC Coaching Symposium. Join us on September 13 & 14 to learn a host of new skills and take your coaching to the next level!
It's more than two years since the the BMC’s
last coaching symposium and much has changed. The demand for coaching and coach education has increased, Mountain Training has
launched a new national coaching scheme and the BMC has greatly increased the coaching for talented young climbers, with thirty-seven regional and national academies planned for 2014/15.
The BMC are also seeing ever increasing numbers at their climbing competitions. Over 800 children entered the BMC rounds of the 2014 Youth Climbing Series, their highest turnout ever.
To educate coaches working with talented young climbers, the theme for this year's coaching symposium is supporting the talent pathway, this being the coaching that a talented young climber receives. However, all of the content is applicable to a wide range of age groups. Those coaching adult climbers will also learn much that can be used to improve their coaching practices too.

Whilst much climbing coaching is focused around competitions and predominantly delivered at walls, the coaching a climber receives should also help them excel in whatever styles of climbing they ultimately choose to pursue, be that competitions, rock climbing, ice climbing or alpinism.
Run over two days, the coaching symposium will be at
Plas y Brenin on Saturday 13 with a mixture of lectures and practicals, and at
The Beacon Climbing Centre in Caernarfon on Sunday 14 and predominantly practical in nature.
You can download the
symposium program, read the
speaker's biographies and
book online to secure your place. Prices start from £60 for BMC members.
