Your Stories: Edward Boyden
Every Sunday we're featuring someone with a Mountain Training story to tell.
This week: Edward Boyden
I gained a passion for the outdoors while serving in the military and when I left in 2009 I attended the Fast Track course at
Plas y Brenin. As well as converting my military qualifications into civilian ones I was very lucky to spend the time with some amazing people and learned a lot of new skills.
Since then I have worked as a freelance instructor for numerous schools and outdoor education centers. I currently work for
Rough Edge Adventure Logistics based in Brecon where I work all over the UK providing training and assessment for Gold Duke of Edinburgh students as well as bespoke trips for anyone feeling adventurous.
Being able to introduce people to the outdoors is a hugely fulfilling job whether it is teaching them basic map reading, guiding a week long expedition in the wilds of Scotland or helping young people achieve the expedition section of their D of E.
Gaining Mountain Training qualifications is a hugely enjoyable and rewarding experience which then gives me the opportunity to pass my knowledge and experience on to others. The view from underneath the hood of a Goretex jacket in the mountains in the driving rain is definitely better than the view out of any office window!
