Mountain Training England has signed up to the Sporting Equals Charter as part of its commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
The
Sporting Equals Charter involves three elements:
1. CaptureWe will capture ethnicity data about our candidates to establish a baseline and measure change over time. This work has already begun and will be supported by our current research project which is investigating the demographics of participants in all types of walking, climbing and mountaineering.
2. CommitWe will commit to tackling underrepresentation at all levels through positive action, increasing opportunities for people from ethnically diverse communities. Mountain Training England's Ethnic Diversity Strategy, 2021-2025 will be published soon.
3. CelebrateWe will celebrate ethnically diverse role models and stories to encourage and inspire people from communities that are currently underrepresented to see our schemes as an option for them.
Mountain Training England is the awarding organisation for seven leadership schemes and two skills schemes in England. The main purposes of Mountain Training England are to register and advise candidates for the schemes it delivers; approve and manage suitably qualified and experienced providers for its courses; and to ensure the quality of delivery of training and assessment courses.
Sporting Equals exists to promote ethnic diversity across sport and physical activity. Originally set up in 1998 by Sport England, in partnership with the Commission for Racial Equality, Sporting Equals is now a fully independent body and a national partner of Sport England.
